I'm very confused about why there are seperate categories for homebrews and indie rpgs. Indie RPGs are created by an independant, self-guided designer or design team. Homebrews are the exact same here. Most indie RPGs don't make it to traditional publishing, the same with homebrew.
There seems to be some kind of statement being made with this division, like there's a difference between making something for your friends and making something you might one day sell to a community. But… in reality and practice, the distinction seems both confusing and unnecessary.
So… why does it exist here? Can someone clear this up for me?
