Don't be too scared off by the topic description.
I didn't quite reach the bottle of rum, I have h
it apon an idea.
I've had an idea for pirates that should be dynamic and interesting enough to play a completely off the wall concept while staying tru to the pirate mythos (especially as it has been twisted by the Pirates of the Carribean movies.)
My idea is time travelling pirates, and the time loyalists who try to restore the damage done when these pirates loot the past for it's treasures. I was going to call it "At World's End", but that name has already been taken.
The concept is pretty simple.
Imagine a cross between "Doctor Who" and "Pirates of the Carribean", then throw in a bit of "Time Bandits" for some humour, maybe some "Terminator" for some action scenes and a few paradoxes that just confuse the hell out of the players, and maybe Jet li's "The One" for a look at possible alternate realities. Tie it all together with some "Back to the Future" ideas.
Confused yet?
Hopefully the following will make it a bit clearer.
//No one knew who first put together the concepts that made time travel a reality. But once the secrets were released it became clear that reality would never be the same. There were those who wanted to use the technology to make money, there were those who wanted to use it to study the past, there were those who wanted to take modern technolgies back into the past to become worshipped as gods. The only thing that they could agree on was the fact that this technology should not become widespread otherwise the flow of time would become seriously entangled and the world as we know it would cease to exist. Perhaps the course of a single butterfly could change the destiny of millions of lives, perhaps a person could accidentally kill the grandfather of the founder of time travel. It didn't really matter what happened, but a single mistake could wipe out the world.
That single mistake didn't even need to happen, the first timeship was launched into the past and the quantum flux shifted.
The world changed permanently in an instant.
No one remembers when that moment happened, but the ripples spread out from it to encompass the entire universe as far as we know it. The attempts to correct it only complicated things further, and more time ships were sent back and forward throughout the time-space continuum. Some took it as their mission to restore things back to the way they remembered the past, others took their mission to be rescuing aspects of the past that could not be allowed to fade away.
Quantum Conquistadors roamed the timestream, removing elements of reality deviancy that had crept into the timeline. Demonic creatures that had been possible evolutions of humanity, mystical devices that simply should never have been created. But there wer others who saw the value in these possibilities and they believed that the true potential of the cosmos lay in the ultimate freedom of humanity. The freedom to become gods and create universes of their own through manipulations of the past present and future.
Thus were born Quantum Pirates, Chrono-Corsairs and Reality Raiders.
Rising to oppose them and bring order back to the timestream came the Integrity Marines.
The characters in this game play privateers in this war, each travelling through timespace in ships that are designed to cut through the quantum stream and change destiny in their wake.
They may choose the freedom and chaos of the pirates, or they may choose to become secretive privateers in the employ of the marines.
The lines are never clear in a war where the very universe is at stake. There is no good or eveil, for the lines of reality cause these terms to lose all meaning.
There is only freedom and the chance to become a god.//
Ambitious? Yes.
Do I think I can pull it off in 10 days? I'm going to damn well try!
