The Fae are a technologically advanced race of beings similar in physical appearance to the human species with the only major difference being their size. Their advanced knowledge of bio-engineering has given them special tools and abilities that appeared as magical to the early humans they first encountered. This technology has also afforded them a longevity which allows an individual Fae to live nearly one thousand years which has been confused as immortality of the species by the human race.
The Fae have been amongst us since the beginning of time. Their world, another planet entirely, rests in another dimension of time and space. During certain celestial events, extra-dimensional portals would open in specific places around our planet allowing travel between the two worlds. These portals have always been in place and creatures from their dimension would stumble upon them haphazardly giving rise to the tales of monsters and spectral beings in the places where they surfaced. The people of our world viewed these special places as sacred or at times even unholy grounds which should be marked for worship or to protect innocent passersby from accidentally wandering into them. Many of these portal sites are still in place in the modern day; Stonehenge, the pyramids of Egypt and South America and many of the temples of Greece.
The ruling classes of the world of Fae are composed of two houses, the Se’le, and the Und Se’le. House Se’le views the human race as a special species of beings that should be looked over and cared for from a distance, only interfering in their development when the race is in grave danger. House Und Se’le sees the human race as a species that should be exploited as slaves or for experimentation. A great war between the houses has been raging for several millennia over these views, one which eventually saw a halt in mankind’s encounters with the Fae for centuries.
The war between the houses escalated to a point in Earth’s Dark Age to where nearly all of the extra-dimensional portals were closed off by the Se’le to prevent the Und Se’le from taking over the world. Many battles have been fought over these portals and many Se’le have lost their lives to protect them. The Se’le have sporadically checked in on mankind to gauge his development throughout the ages, but they have been left to their own devices for the most part.
The Und Se’le held only one portal that lead to an island in the Atlantic Ocean called Atlantis that had been rendered useless to them when the Se’le found a way to sink it. Since that time, the portal has opened and closed regularly creating havoc among the human population by causing many ships and aircraft to disappear without a trace. The Und Se’le have made several trips through the portal in their saucer shaped craft to abduct the occasional lone wanderer, replacing them with changelings that carry out important missions for them among the humans.
The Und Se’le are making a final push against mankind. They are pulling out all the stops on their current advance. Not only are they attacking Earth in their flying saucers, they are also attempting to overpower the Se’le on the planet of Fae to seize control of any of the other portals leading to Earth. Several portals have already fallen; Stonehenge and Delphi being the two most prominent sites.
The player characters are Faeries of House Se’le. They have been sent to Earth to help the humans defend themselves from the hordes of the Und Se’le.
